Her first album, These Crazy Years (Flying Fish/Rounder), received excellent reviews in the New York Daily News and England’s Folk Roots magazine. Her latest album of original music, Songs For Collectors, was released in 2002. “A traffic-stopping voice,” says folk legend and songwriter Rosalie Sorrells. “A voice like a silk handkerchief and lyrics sharp as spike heels,” noted the Louisville (KY) Courier-Journal. “A master of the musical expression of her soul,” said the Kerrville Daily Times. Jan toured nationally with Pieces of 8, an eight-member a cappella vocal group, and appears on their CD Hook, Line & Sinker, released in 1998. In 2000, Jan was featured on Suite 16, an album of St. Louis songwriters, and included in several CDs produced by KDHX-FM. Jan has been a member of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Chorus since 2000, and has received an international award from the International Whistling Competition for melodic and entertaining whistling. In 2007 Jan was tapped to write a commemorative song honoring internationally renowned scientist and educator Dr. Peter Raven of the Missouri Botanical Garden. Jan performs regularly at retirement communities, for social groups and benefit events, and as a music therapist with the elderly. She also appears with a jazz combo, and is available for solo performance of classical or popular music at weddings and other social events. Jan plays bass and sings with Ivan Martin's Raw Earth Experience, the only Urban Tribal Percussion Jam Band in St. Louis. Raw Earth has performed at Belleville's Art On The Square, the Shaw Art Festival, the Missouri Botanical Garden, Grafton Art Fair, Guitars 4 Vets, and the Bayou Bash IV benefit to support victims of Hurricane Katrina.
